This enduring book offers you a soothing lullaby to read or sing to your children. The charming illustrations are sure to be pictures your children can relate to and treasure. Upon reaching the last page, my niece fell fast asleep. The lyrical words and sweet melody will lull any restless spirit into a deep and dreamy sleep.
This is a great lullaby that I truly enjoy reading to my child. Highly recommend, plus there is sheet notes for music at the end of the book for the lullaby.
Bedtime is such a precious time for cuddling with our children as we hold them close and tuck them into bed. Day's End Lullaby is an endearing bedtime read-aloud that our children will come to cherish each night. The pictures are colorful and dreamlike and the words are sweet and loving. There is even a musical score in the back of the book so that you can actually sing the lullaby, too. The author has posted a video on her site where you can hear the lullaby being sung to help learn the melody.
This lovingly created book will delight any child at bedtime. Parents will love it too. The rhyming lyrics evoke the coming of night and the time for restful sleep, filled with happy dreams. The eventful day is recalled, and the promise of another day of fun is implied. The printed music for the lullaby is included in the back of the book, a bonus for the many readers who read music. For those who do not, the tune may be heard on the author's web site. It is a perfect tune for a lullaby, memorable and lyrical, but not difficult to learn and remember. The illustrations in bold primary colors are detailed and interesting, giving children much to enjoy and identify, and yet they have a soothing effect. I particularly enjoyed the recurring image of the child's 'favorite bear,' lovingly mentioned in the poem. I actually counted the bear's appearances; children would surely enjoy that too. I highly recommend this inspired book for children and their parents and grandparents at bedtime.

The time is 8 o'clock, the sun is setting, and with their favorite stuffed animal next to them, a child is ready for sleep. The moon is out and the toys are put away, ready for another day of play. A child goes to sleep, dreaming of the next days adventures.
Day's End Lullaby is a simple, colorful, 28 page bedtime picture book that combines easy to read text, with delightful pictures and lyrical phrases to create a relaxing lure toward sleep. Parents, who often sing their children to sleep, with find this story a great addition to their bedtime routine. As a special feature located a the end of the book, sheet music to the lullaby is included.
Mother and daughter writing team, Karen Cioffi and Robyn Feltman, have written and composed a delightful lullaby to soothe babies and young children to sleep. The rhyming text, the colourful pictures and the soft music combine into a wonderful, relaxing experience for both adults and children. I found my own concerns just drifting away as I listened to the music and enjoyed the words. The imagery used at the end of the book with 'Mr Sandman' kissing the child's thoughts and turning them into dreams, so that the child would then wake to 'morning's first sun-kissed gleams' particularly appealed to the poet in me.
The musical score can be found at the back of the book and you can listen to a recording on the authors' website. It would be ideal if the book had a CD included with it, but after listening just a few times to the music on the website, I had picked up the tune and was easily matching the words to the music. The book can be enjoyed, however, even without the music because of the rhyming text and the pictures. The latter are very suitable, I think, for babies and young children as they are colourful, uncluttered and clear. In my opinion this book will delight all young children, whether they find it difficult to go to sleep or not and I look forward to future works produced by this mother/daughter team.

A child has his favorite teddy bear. The sun has set. The moon is out. The day is over. The child is tired. Now it is time for him to close his eyes and go to sleep. This lovely little book, with its lilting, lyrical poetry and its soothing message, is intended for just such a time. One of the best things that parents may do for their children is to read aloud to them. It can be both fun and educational. Our family has tried to have two read aloud periods each day. One is after lunch, when we have generally chosen historical fiction, and the other is right before bed, when we have used other books which relate to our children's interests.
Reading aloud before bedtime serves several purposes. First, it is an opportunity for personal interaction between parent and child. Second, it is helpful in getting settled down for children who have been playing for a while to have a period of transition between the activities of the day and the need to rest at night. This picture book is perfect for that purpose. It has the additional benefit that the text has been set to music, and the lullaby is included. Author Karen Cioffi says that she wrote the lullaby to the story over 30 years ago for her firstborn who didn't like sleeping. This is one of those books that wee ones will probably want read over and over to them.
This beautifully illustrated and charming book will help your child get off to sleep quickly and be treasured for years to come.
